History and presentation of Domaine Bouchard père et fils .

The history of this historic estate dates back to the 18th century, when Michel Bouchard, a draper by trade, travelled from Burgundy to Flanders to sell his fabrics. Attracted by the profitability of the wine trade, he decided to move into this sector. He acquired his first wine estate through the wine trade in 1774. This estate was located in Volnay. He then founded the company "Bouchard Père & Fils" in 1785 with his son and grandson. In 1820, his descendant Bernard Bouchard acquired the prestigious Château de Beaune, built by King Louis XI, and installed the winery in its underground passages and bastions. These are located 10 m below ground level over an area of 4,000 m2. This location ensures an ideal temperature and constant humidity for maturing and preserving the wines. Over the centuries, Michel Bouchard and the other members of his family have built up an immense estate extending over 130 hectares along the coast. Other acquisitions were made to extend the vineyards of Volnay, including Clos Saint-Landry, Beaune Clos de la Mousse, Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Beaune vigne de grève de l'enfant Jésus, to name but a few. The boom in international trade began in the early 20th century. Since then, the hotel's Burgundy wines have been served on the tables of Michelin-starred restaurants and on board airlines and cruise ships. However, the financial crisis of the 1990s had an impact on the estate's sales. The heirs therefore decided to sell their plots. The CEO of the Henriot group, attracted by the estate's potential, its well-established reputation and the high quality standards of its wines, bought it in 1995. He equipped the old family business with a new, more efficient winery in 2005
