Tortochot Estate

Domaine Tortochot is a winegrowing estate in Burgundy, France, specialising in the production of high-quality red wines made mainly from Pinot Noir grapes, as well as Chardonnay-based white wines. The estate is located in the Côte de Nuits region, one of the most prestigious in Burgundy. Domaine Tortochot was founded in the 19th century and has remained in the Tortochot family for several generations. It has followed a well-established Burgundy winemaking tradition, emphasising respect for the terroir and traditional winemaking methods, and owns vineyards spread across various Côte de Nuits appellations, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. These appellations are renowned for their varied soils, made up of limestone, marl and clay, which give the grapes their distinct characteristics. The main grape variety grown is Pinot Noir for the red wines, and Chardonnay for the white wines. The vines are carefully managed, with an emphasis on environmentally-friendly viticulture, and Domaine Tortochot's working philosophy emphasises the constant pursuit of excellence and respect for the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand to guarantee their quality, and the wine is made in the traditional way, with fermentation in wooden vats and careful maceration to extract the aromas and flavours of the grapes. The estate's wines are then matured in French oak barrels for between 12 and 24 months, depending on the appellation and vintage, to develop their complexity and elegance. The wines produced by Domaine Tortochot are renowned for their finesse, elegance and ability to faithfully reflect the terroir of the Côte de Nuits. The red wines offer aromas of red and black fruit, spices, floral notes and undergrowth, with a fine tannic structure that allows them to age gracefully. The estate's white wines, made from Chardonnay, offer aromas of white-fleshed fruit, citrus and minerals, with a refreshing acidity
