Terroir of Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation

This French town is in the Côte d'Or department in the Burgundy region. Although it has only 310 ha of vineyards, it is of considerable importance as it boasts 41 top-quality Premiers Crus vineyards. Pinot noir is the main grape variety used in Nuits-Saint-Georges. It produces young red wines with beautiful aromas of red fruit, floral notes and a hint of liquorice. After a few years' cellaring, these wines have a muscular, structured structure with scents of undergrowth, fur and leather. The white wines are pale gold in colour, fairly alcoholic, with an expressive bouquet of white flowers and honey.
The terroir of this appellation is divided into two parts. The northern part borders Vosne-Romanée. The southern part covers part of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Premeaux. The soil in the northern part consists of stony alluvium at the top of the slopes and silty soils in the lower parts. In the southern sector, the terroir is filled with deep limestone and marl soils. The climate faces east or south-east
