Mouton Rothschild: a prestigious wine of the highest quality

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most prestigious red wines in the Bordeaux region. Its reputation is well established, and it is classified as a "Premier Grand Cru Classé" according to the official Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855. There are two reasons why Mouton Rothschild is so well known: the first is that each label of each vintage is illustrated by an internationally renowned artist; the second is that the Ministry of Agriculture has promoted Mouton Rothschild to the rank of 'Premier Grand Cru Classé'.
Despite a few erratic vintages in the 1970s and 1980s, Mouton Rothschild now shines at the forefront of the Bordeaux wine scene. What's more, the quality of this great wine continues to be maintained at the highest level, with an exceptional vintage in 2009.

Château Mouton Rothschild is a French wine estate renowned for its premier cru red wines. Founded by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, the estate is now run by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her sons, Philippe Sereys and Camille Sereys de Rothschild. The 1945 vintage is famous for its silver bottle and the words "Premier ne puis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis" on the label. The second wine, Le Petit Mouton, is also very popular. Mouton Rothschild is located in the Pays d'Oc, where vines are grown on one wing of the estate. The 1855 classification classed Mouton Rothschild as a second growth, but Philippe de Rothschild managed to have this changed in 1973, making Mouton Rothschild a first growth.
