Château Haut Brion

Château Haut Brion

Château Haut-Brion is already almost five centuries old. This makes it one of the oldest estates in the Bordeaux region. Today, it boasts a surface area of 51 hectares on the outskirts of one of France's largest cities. The Haut-Brion estate is unique in that it is practically right next to Bordeaux, on sandy-clay soil. But this in no way prevents it from being recognised by its peers: it is classified as a 'Premier Grand Cru' according to the official classification of 1855. Haut-Brion is also recognised as the best wine in the Pessac-Leognan appellation.

As for Haut-Brion itself, it's primarily Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, in almost equal proportions. The vintages have already distinguished themselves in the past. Recent vintages include 2009 and 2010. What characterises Haut-Brion wines is first and foremost their richness of flavour. After ageing, the bottles develop a smoky sweetness that is absolutely typical of this estate. Haut-Brion also produces white wines, notably Clarté, whose golden colour and generosity on the palate leave no one indifferent.
