Château Haut Brion
Château Haut-Brion is already almost five centuries old. This makes it one of the oldest estates in the Bordeaux region. Today, it boasts a surface area of 51 hectares on the outskirts of one of France's largest cities. Indeed, the Haut-Brion estate is unique in that it lies practically next to Bordeaux, on sandy-clay soil. This in no way prevents it from being recognized by its peers: it is classified as a "Premier Grand Cru" according to the official 1855 classification. What's more, Haut-Brion is recognized as the finest wine in the Pessac-Leognan appellation.
As for Haut-Brion itself, it's primarily Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, in almost equal proportions. The vintages have already distinguished themselves in the past. Recent vintages include 2009 and 2010. Haut-Brion wines are characterized first and foremost by their richness of flavor. After ageing, the bottles develop a smoky sweetness absolutely typical of this estate. Domaine Haut-Brion also develops white wines, notably Clarté, whose golden color and generous mouthfeel leave no one indifferent.
