The Domaine Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru 1996 is a red Burgundy wine from the Chambertin climat in Gevrey-Chambertin, crafted by Domaine Rousseau. This Grand Cru is composed of 100% Pinot Noir. The grapes come from three east-facing sectors, complemented by the Larrey parcel, located at the edge of the woods and worked with a horse; the estate owns 2,55 hectares here. The very chalky soils combine clay-limestone, crinoidal limestone and marl depending on the sector. Jancis Robinson awards it 17,5/20, with a drinking window from 2008 to 2020; Wine Spectator rates it 89/100, to be enjoyed from 2001 to 2006. Critics highlight a refined and highly aromatic profile, driven by marked acidity and a yet-perceptible oak framework in its youth.
