The Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 1996 is a Rhône Valley red wine produced in Cornas by Domaine Auguste Clape from 100% Syrah. The estate's classic cuvée brings together grapes from old vines, distinct from the Renaissance cuvée reserved for younger parcels. Harvesting is manual, and vinification is carried out plot by plot using whole clusters and indigenous yeasts; ageing continues for about 24 months in old 1,000-litre foudres, without seeking an oaky character. The Wine Advocate awarded it 88/100 and indicated a drinking window in 2014. The review describes a Cornas of black fruits and ripe plums, lifted by spices, endowed with vibrant acidity and firm yet integrated tannins.
