Château Pichon Baron 2003 Magnum (150cl)
Château Pichon Baron 2003 is a red wine from Pauillac, classified as a Second Growth in 1855, produced by Château Pichon Baron Longueville. It is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Marked by the heatwave and drought of 2003, the vintage required a very staggered harvest from September 11 to October 1, with rigorous selection and long, gentle extractions to tame a particularly concentrated material. Aging lasted 15 months, with 70% in new oak barrels. The Wine Advocate awarded it 94/100 with a drinking window from 2014 to 2022; James Suckling rated it 96/100 and Wine Spectator 95/100, with a recommendation after 2016 and 2012 respectively. Critics describe an ample and powerful Pauillac featuring ripe black fruits, cassis, tobacco, cedar, and spices, supported by velvety yet dense tannins.
