Histoire du domaine

The origins of the Coche-Dury estate date back to the interwar period in Meursault. For a long time, a significant proportion of its production was sold in bulk to Burgundian wine merchants. From 1964 onwards, Georges Coche expanded the vineyard and steered the estate increasingly towards bottling on the premises. His son Jean-François subsequently took over the family business. In 1975, his marriage to Odile Dury led to the adoption of the name Coche-Dury. Jean-François gradually expanded the estate’s holdings, notably through the acquisition of plots in the climats of Meursault and in Volnay. Raphaël Coche-Dury joined the estate in 1997 and initially worked alongside his father. He is now solely responsible for the estate’s management, the running of the vineyard and the winemaking. The estate currently cultivates around 10.5 hectares under vine, with the majority of the land situated in the commune of Meursault.

Les Caillerets (Meursault)

Les Caillerets is a climat officially classified as a Premier Cru of the AOC Meursault, permitted for both white and red wines. A professional datasheet dedicated precisely to this climat describes a limestone soil, shallow and highly well-drained, resting on limestone broken into slabs or "laves".

Histoire de la parcelle

The climat appears in the product specification (cahier des charges) for Meursault among the sectors classified as Premier Cru; the corresponding specific plot area was approved by the INAO on September 5 and 6, 2001. The Meursault appellation itself was recognized by decree on July 31, 1937. The stony toponymy of "Caillerets" belongs to an ancient family of Burgundy climat names linked to stony soils.

Coche produced six barrels of the beautiful 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Les Caillerets from this seldom-seen climat on the northern side of Meursault. Wafting from the glass with scents of white flowers, crisp green orchard fruit, citrus zest, pastry cream, fresh mint and toasted sesame, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and chiseled, its sweet core of fruit underpinned by racy acids, concluding with a long, mouthwateringly mineral finish.
