Domain Bouchard Pere et Fils La Romanee 1990 SD
The 1990 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils La Romanée is a red Burgundy wine from the La Romanée grand cru in the Vosne-Romanée appellation. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, it combines the depth of a grand cru with a long, structured finish. Jancis Robinson awards it 17/20 and recommends drinking between 2013 and 2030. Critics note a smooth and flattering palate, confectionery notes, a fleshy and spicy touch, and a remarkable persistence.

Histoire du domaine
Michel Bouchard, a cloth and fabric merchant originally from the Dauphiné region, settled in Beaune in 1731 and simultaneously established a wine trading business. His son Joseph became his partner in 1746, before taking over the business in 1750. In 1775, Joseph Bouchard acquired his first plots in the Les Combes vineyard in Pommard, marking the birth of the wine estate. In 1820, Bernard Bouchard purchased the Château de Beaune, whose underground galleries were gradually converted into ageing cellars; the estate’s headquarters have been based there since 1872. The Henriot family took control of Bouchard Père & Fils in 1995, and Joseph Henriot began acquiring further vineyards in 1996. The estate joined Artémis Domaines at the end of 2022. From 2024, the wine merchant business was discontinued in order to focus on the estate’s own vineyards and those under lease. As part of a reorganisation of the Côte de Beaune vineyard, Bouchard Père & Fils now focuses on around 60 hectares; Mickaël Baroin, technical director, oversees the winemaking. The conversion to organic farming, which began in 2009, will result in all plots being certified from the 2025 vintage onwards.
La Romanée (Vosne Romanée)
La Romanée is a physically delimited climat in Vosne-Romanée corresponding to a Grand Cru appellation, officially created on September 11, 1936. Located higher on the hillside than Romanée-Conti, it features a marked slope of 12% and a red-brown soil that is less clayey than that of its neighbor. The climat is a monopole and rests primarily on Prémeaux limestones, with chert locally outcropping in its southwestern part.

Histoire de la parcelle
The current site is the result of the consolidation, between 1815 and 1826, of several small plots formerly designated notably as "Aux Échanges", "En La Romanée" and "Sentier au Prêtre". General Louis Liger-Belair progressively brought them together, and the whole was subsequently registered under the name "La Romanée" in 1827. The terroir was recognized as a Grand Cru appellation d'origine contrôlée on September 11, 1936.
