Histoire du domaine
The estate’s origins date back to the late 17th century, when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan established the Enclos Rauzan from vineyards located near Latour. In 1694, these vineyards formed part of the dowry of his daughter, Thérèse Desmezures de Rauzan, upon her marriage to Jacques François de Pichon Longueville – the date taken to mark the founding of Pichon Longueville. Following the death of Joseph de Pichon Longueville in 1849, the vineyard was divided amongst his five children in 1850. The share allocated to Raoul Pichon de Longueville became the estate that gave rise to Pichon Baron, whilst another share formed Pichon Comtesse. In 1851, Raoul had the château with its two turrets built. The wine was classified as a Second Grand Cru in the 1855 classification. The Pichon de Longueville family sold the estate to the Bouteiller family in 1933. AXA Millésimes acquired the estate in 1987 and, from 1988 onwards, undertook the renovation of the château and the reconstruction of the technical facilities. An underground wine cellar was built in 2006–2007, followed by the modernisation of the facilities with the installation of a gravity-fed system in 2021. Pierre Montégut succeeded Jean-René Matignon as technical director in 2022.
