Histoire du domaine
Henry-Frédéric Roch founded Domaine Prieuré Roch in 1988. He gradually developed the vineyard using cultivation and winemaking methods that avoid synthetic products. Shortly after the estate was founded, he acquired the Clos Goillotte, a 0.55-hectare plot situated in Vosne-Romanée. The estate now comprises around 20 hectares of vineyards spread across Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Ladoix and Savigny-lès-Beaune. Yannick Champ met Henry-Frédéric Roch in 2002, before joining the estate as cellar master in 2005. He became estate manager in 2008 and co-manager in 2010. Following the death of Henry-Frédéric Roch in November 2018, Yannick Champ took over the management of the estate. Antonio Quari is designated by the estate as head winemaker, responsible for overseeing winemaking and ageing. The business is currently owned by Financière Henry R. and Chrystelle Roch, whilst Yannick Champ also serves as managing director.
Les Gollardes
Les Gollardes is a climat of the Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation, classified at the Village level and officially distinct from the neighboring climat Dessus les Gollardes. It is located on the northern hillside of Savigny-lès-Beaune, towards Bouilland and Pernand-Vergelesses, in a dry, stony sector above Les Goudelettes. The site benefits from a favorable southern exposure; certain professional sources specify a south-southeast orientation. The reference provided therefore does not correspond to a climat in Ladoix, while the Domaine Prieuré Roch datasheet explicitly concerns Dessus les Gollardes.
- Vineyard commune
- Savigny-lès-Beaune
- Origin of the vineyard name
- The name is believed to come from the Old French "golle", "goule" or "gollot", designating a narrow bottleneck-shaped passage, a gorge or a throat, in reference to the funnel shape of the plots.
- Exposure
- South to south-southeast
- Soil
- Dry and stony ground
Histoire de la parcelle
Les Gollardes appears as a lieu-dit or climat of Savigny-lès-Beaune in the cadastral inventory drawn up for the Climats of the Burgundy vineyard dossier, in section ZE on the 1976 cadastral survey. Published toponymic tradition links its name to the constricted then widened configuration of the terrain, comparable to a funnel.
