Histoire du domaine
The history of Château Trotanoy dates back to the 18th century, a period during which the estate was associated with the Giraud family, wine merchants in Libourne. The wine was then known as ‘Trop Ennuie’, a reference to the difficulty of working its clay and gravelly soils. The Giraud family subsequently adopted the name Trotanoy. In the 19th century, the wine was marketed under the name ‘Pomerol-Giraud Cru de Trotanoy’ and was already ranked amongst the recognised wines of Pomerol. A series of inheritances and crises in the wine industry then gradually reduced the estate’s area. After the Second World War, the estate left the Giraud family. Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired it in 1953, and Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix has managed it ever since. The vineyard was partly spared by the frosts of 1956. The estate is now owned by the Moueix family, as part of the Société Civile du Château Trotanoy. Laurent Descos is the cellar master for the Moueix estates, whilst Éric Murisasco is the technical director.
