Histoire du domaine
Le Prieuré de Cantenac was founded in the 12th century by the monks of Vertheuil Abbey. The estate is listed among the fourth growths of the 1855 classification under the name Prieuré. In 1951, Alexis Lichine acquired the property, then known as Prieuré-Cantenac. Two years later, he renamed it Château Prieuré-Lichine. During this period, he modernised the facilities, restored the former monastic residence and expanded the estate’s vineyards. The property remained in the Lichine family for around half a century. It has belonged to the Ballande Group since 1999. In 2012, the estate acquired a further 8 hectares and began construction of a new wine-making facility. Étienne Charrier, deputy director of production, is now in charge of winemaking.
