Histoire du domaine
The Domaine du Tertre was established in the early 18th century by Pierre Mitchell, founder of Bordeaux’s first glassworks. He acquired part of the Arsac seigneury in 1724 and gradually developed the vineyard. The present château was built around 1736, under the ownership of the Mitchell family. The estate’s wine was classified as a Fifth Grand Cru of the Médoc in the 1855 classification. After several changes of ownership, the Capbern-Gasqueton family acquired the château in 1961 and undertook the restoration of the vineyard. In 1997, the estate was taken over by the Dutch businessman Éric Albada Jelgersma, also the owner of Château Giscours, who initiated a restructuring of the property. CNP Assurances became the owner in 2021 and entrusted the running of the château to the Helfrich family, who are associated with Grands Chais de France. Cynthia Capelaere manages the estate, whilst Romain Beurienne is responsible for technical management and winemaking.
