The origins and production of Macallan Whisky.

Indeed, production of this spirit is expanding on Scottish soil. For the record, Scotland boasts a total of 133 distilleries. The Macallan distillery's success story dates back to 1824. At that time, Alexander Reed, a teacher and farmer, had the idea of distilling whisky on 8 acres of rented land in Craigellachie, Speyside. He applied for a legal distiller's license and founded the distillery. The estate changed ownership several times over the years, until it was bought by the Edrington Group in 1999. Today, the 390-acre estate is owned by the Robertson Trust, the owners of the Edrington Group. The redesigned Macallan distillery boasts small copper stills of unique shapes and sizes, producing single malts of beautiful natural color, full of rich, viscous flavor. These are spirits distilled from barley. In order to offer consumers the very best whiskies, only 16% of the alcohol collected in these stills is used to fill the 170,000 casks at Maison Macallan. These oak casks are sourced from Spain and America. The distillery's annual production is at an all-time high, reaching almost 11 million bottles in 2015. This massive production capacity makes it one of Scotland's leading producers of premium single malt whisky. Features of the Macallan Luxury Whisky Collection

Speyside whisky distillery Macallan regularly launches new bottles, but is also known for its exceptional products aged 30, 40, 50 years or more. Some of these whiskies were distilled long before the distillery went public, in 1963. They are aged in Spanish oak casks and offered in limited editions, which you have the privilege of buying on this site. In the collection, you can find the age of the bottle. The products sold on this site range in age from 1957 to 1979. These whiskies are first matured in Spanish oak casks before moving on to American oak barrels. The double stage of aging contributes to their brilliant appearance, their explosion of sherry with beautiful notes of sweet grapes, wood, spices or their intense and exotic aromas of creamy vanilla, citrus, prunes, Parma violet, rose petal... Some old whiskies also have subtle notes of maple syrup, burnt caramel, dates, chocolate... or a sweet, fruity, woody and well-balanced nose. In fact, the older a whisky gets, the more it explodes on the palate with incredibly complex aromas on the nose.
