Guigal: Representing the Rhône Valley

Founded in the mid-1940s by Étienne Guigal, the House of Guigal now represents the very best of the Rhône Valley. The eponymous estate is built on land that has been famous for its wine production for 24 centuries! The cellars of Château d'Ampuis, located on this terroir, are home to both northern and southern Rhône Valley appellations: its 230 hectares are home to such great names as Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel. The record held by the House of Guigal leaves one wondering about its popularity: a 2003 Côte-Rôtie sold for over $800, making it the most expensive Côte du Rhône in history.

Domaine Etienne Guigal is run by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, sons of founder Etienne. They produce exceptional Saint-Joseph and Côte-Rôtie cuvées, sold in bottles around the world.

Domaine Guigal 's production focuses primarily on red and white wines. The Côtes-du-Rhône is the only one offered in rosé. But the appellations are not evenly distributed: Condrieu alone accounts for 150 hectares, more than half of the Guigal estate. There are some real treasures in the range, such as Doriane, grown on a steep escarpment. The Guigal family, headed by Marcel, Philippe and Étienne, has developed a number of fine wine cuvées, including Mouliné, Roussanne and Viognier. Château de Nalys, owned by the Guigal family, is also renowned for its Rhône wines, such as Côte Blonde and Saint-Joseph. The Château d'Ampuis is also home to a number of ex-voto statues, testifying to the importance of vines and wine to the Guigal family.
