The Macallan Anniversary Single Highland Malt 50 year old 1928
The Macallan Anniversary Malt 50 Year Old 1928 is an amber Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced by Macallan. This Anniversary cuvée carries a 50-year age statement and was matured in sherry oak casks. Bottled in 1983, it is the result of a blend of three old casks distilled between 1926 and 1928. Produced in a limited run of 500 bottles and bottled at 38.6%, this release documents one of the distillery's earliest very long-aged expressions.

Macallan
The Macallan is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery situated on the Easter Elchies estate, near Craigellachie, in the Speyside region of Scotland. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, it is now owned by the Scottish group Edrington. Its whiskies are produced from spirits matured, in particular, in oak casks that have been seasoned with sherry.

Histoire du domaine
Alexander Reid, a schoolteacher and tenant farmer, obtained a distilling licence in 1824 for his farm at Easter Elchies, in Speyside. At that time, the farm comprised just seven acres. The distillery took the name The Macallan and produced Scotch malt whisky. In 1892, Roderick Kemp acquired the distillery; he is regarded by the company as one of the architects of its expansion beyond Scotland. His daughter, Janet Harbinson, subsequently played a part in managing the family business. In 1996, The Macallan was acquired by Highland Distillers. Edrington bought Highland Distillers in 1999 and subsequently added The Macallan to its portfolio of brands. A new distillery and visitor centre opened on the Easter Elchies estate in 2018. Since 2019, Kirsteen Campbell has held the position of Master Whisky Maker, becoming the first woman to hold this role at The Macallan. Since 2023, Edrington has also stepped up its investment in the sherry-cask sector in Spain, a key resource for the maturation of the brand’s whiskies.
Anniversary
Anniversary Malt is a historic series of official bottlings from The Macallan launched in 1983. It primarily brings together 25-year-old single malts identified by their distillation year, alongside an ultra-rare 50-year-old edition associated with the 1928 vintage. The first editions were presented in wooden presentation boxes and conceived as high-end expressions from the distillery's older stocks.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1983
- Style of the cuvée
- Long-aged single malts, typically marked by sherry wood maturation, featuring a rich and evolved profile combining dried fruits, spices, woody depth, and a long finish.
- Position within the range
- Historic prestige series dedicated to The Macallan's oldest stocks, predominantly 25 years old.
Histoire de la cuvée
The series was inaugurated in 1983 with the 25 Year Old 1957 vintage and the 50 Year Old associated with the 1928 vintage. The 25-year-old Anniversary Malt releases were subsequently offered with various vintages, and later without a vintage for the final editions, until the early 2000s. This series contributed to positioning The Macallan among the producers of aged and prestigious single malts.
