Burlotto
Founded in 1850 in Verduno, the estate Comm. G.B. Burlotto is one of the historical properties of Barolo and remains run by the descendants of its founder. Its vineyard notably includes parcels in Monvigliero, Cannubi, and Castelletto, as well as several crus in Verduno that go into the Barolo Acclivi and classical Barolo. Fabio Alessandria conducts the vinifications in a traditional spirit, favoring gentle interventions, long macerations, and aging in large casks.

Histoire du domaine
The estate bears the name of Giovan Battista Burlotto, who in 1850 redirected the family farm toward viticulture and wine production in Verduno. Already the owner of vineyards in Monvigliero and Cannubi, he was one of the pioneers in commercializing bottled Barolo and became an official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy. Upon his death, the property passed to his son Francesco, then, following the latter's untimely passing, to his grandson Ignazio. During the war years, Ignazio notably maintained the vinification of 100% Pelaverga, playing a decisive role in saving this grape variety in Verduno. Upon his death in 1968, his seventeen-year-old daughter Marina Burlotto inherited the estate. She developed it with her husband Giuseppe Alessandria; the couple notably bottled the Barolo Cannubi and Monvigliero separately starting from the 1982 vintage. Their children Fabio and Cristina now represent the fifth generation: a graduate in viticulture and oenology from the University of Turin in 1999, Fabio Alessandria is in charge of vinifications. In 2018, the family completed its historical holdings in Verduno and Barolo by acquiring approximately one hectare in the Castelletto cru, in Monforte d'Alba.
Cannubi
Barolo DOCG exclusively made from Nebbiolo cultivated on Burlotto's plot in Cannubi Valletta, in the commune of Barolo. The producer commercializes it separately under the name Cannubi. Its Sant'Agata marl soils with a high sandy component distinguish it from Burlotto's Barolos originating from Verduno.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the Cannubi cru in Barolo, where Burlotto owns a plot located in the Cannubi Valletta sector.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1982
- Style of the cuvée
- A Barolo combining structure and power with pronounced elegance, attributed by the producer to the sandy component of Cannubi's soils. Its overall profile seeks a balance between rigor, warmth, power, and finesse.
- Position within the range
- Single-plot cru Barolo, among the distinct terroir expressions of the Burlotto range.
Histoire de la cuvée
The Burlotto family acquired a vineyard in Cannubi at the beginning of the 20th century. Cannubi was established as a single-plot wine in 1982, when Marina Burlotto and Giuseppe Alessandria launched the Cannubi and Monvigliero labels separately. The current plot was replanted in 1988.
