Histoire du domaine
The Domaine de la Mordorée was established in 1986 in Tavel by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe. The family previously owned vineyards in Tavel and the Côtes-du-Rhône, before building a cellar and wine stores at the heart of the family estate. The first plot was acquired in Lirac when the estate was first established. The vineyard subsequently expanded, notably with the purchase of plots in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1989 and a hillside in Condrieu in 1992; the first barrels of Condrieu were produced in 2009. Christophe Delorme oversaw the estate’s development for nearly thirty years. He passed away in June 2015. Since 2016, his wife Madeleine Delorme and their daughter Ambre have continued to run the business with the existing team. The estate is now certified as organic and Demeter biodynamic.
Plume du Peintre
La Plume du Peintre is a rare cuvée that the estate reserves for vintages deemed exceptional. As a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it results from a selection of parcels, mainly old vines located on La Crau, isolated and then vinified and aged separately when their quality justifies it. Its blending and aging may evolve, but it remains focused on concentrated, structured wines capable of aging.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name refers to a small, specific feather from the woodcock's wing, formerly used as a fine paintbrush. It fits into the estate's nomenclature, inspired by the nicknames and attributes of this bird known as "la mordorée".
- Cuvée creation year
- 2003
- Style of the cuvée
- Deep, concentrated, and structured red wine, generally dominated by Grenache, combining power, substance, fine tannins, and long-term aging potential. Recent versions seek greater precision, freshness, and balance, with better-integrated oak aging.
- Position within the range
- Emblematic, rare, and confidential cuvée, at the pinnacle of the estate's range during exceptional vintages.
Histoire de la cuvée
Created by Christophe Delorme, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape version appeared in 2003, then in 2005. After a long hiatus, Ambre Delorme produced it again in 2019 and 2022. The name has also been used occasionally by the estate for exceptional selections in Lirac and Tavel.
