Histoire du domaine
Before becoming a winemaker, Clotaire Michal worked as a sommelier. He then trained in the Languedoc with Christophe Peyrus at Clos Marie, followed by five years with Thierry Allemand in Cornas. From 2008 to 2012, he produced Saint-Joseph from Syrah, with vinifications carried out in Thierry Allemand's cellar. At the end of 2013, he acquired a property featuring old vines and a cellar in Saint-Étienne-la-Varenne, south of Brouilly; his first Beaujolais vintage was crafted in 2014. Initially run by Clotaire alone, the estate became a collaboration with his wife Yuka Ito in 2018. In 2019, several cuvées changed names: La Napoléon became Libre Pensée and Vignes Centenaires was renamed À Fleur de Peau, both commercialized as Vin de France. The consulted sources do not establish with sufficient certainty the currently farmed surface area or total annual production, as available figures are presented by cuvée and vintage.
