Pommard
Pommard: Pinot noir is king
The Pommard vineyard is an estate in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region. That said, Château de Pommard is also Burgundy's largest clos en monopôle. But it's also an appellation d'origine contrôlée, with Pommard representing above all a 320-hectare terroir based on the eponymous commune. Here, Pinot Noir is king, accounting for almost all AOC production. However, it is possible to find some rare Chardonnays. Eventually, 28 Premiers Crus will be produced.
Pommard wines stand out first and foremost to the eye: their deep red color is distinctive of the AOC. On the nose, on the other hand, they are more conventional, evoking a varied range of fruit flavors: blackcurrant, redcurrant, blueberry, with added hints of chocolate and leather. A Pommard is easy to obtain, with prices ranging from around twenty to less than a hundred euros on average. At the table, it is ideal with hare or red meat (beef is a perfect match). It also goes well with Munster cheese.
The Pommard appellation is a prestigious cru in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy, France. The red wines produced in this village are renowned for their grape variety and exceptional ageing potential. Bottles from Louis Jadot and other Côte Chalonnaise producers are examples of the excellence of the Pommard appellation, which stands out from the country's other wine regions such as Bordeaux.
