Domain Bouchard Pere et Fils Corton 1964 -5cm

Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Corton 1964 is a red Burgundy wine from the Aloxe-Corton appellation, classified as a Grand Cru. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, it comes from the historic plot Le Corton, which originated the name of the Corton appellation. The estate owns 60% of the climat there and farms 3.2 hectares on stony, clay-limestone soils with an eastern exposure. This cuvée thus expresses the identity of the Corton hillside within the Côte de Beaune.

Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils

Based in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is a Burgundian estate whose commercial activities date back to 1731 and whose first vineyards were planted in 1775. Having joined Artémis Domaines in late 2022, it now cultivates around 60 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, mainly in Beaune, Volnay, Monthélie, Pommard and Meursault. All of its plots will be certified organic from the 2025 vintage onwards.

Histoire du domaine

Michel Bouchard, a cloth and fabric merchant originally from the Dauphiné region, settled in Beaune in 1731 and simultaneously established a wine trading business. His son Joseph became his partner in 1746, before taking over the business in 1750. In 1775, Joseph Bouchard acquired his first plots in the Les Combes vineyard in Pommard, marking the birth of the wine estate. In 1820, Bernard Bouchard purchased the Château de Beaune, whose underground galleries were gradually converted into ageing cellars; the estate’s headquarters have been based there since 1872. The Henriot family took control of Bouchard Père & Fils in 1995, and Joseph Henriot began acquiring further vineyards in 1996. The estate joined Artémis Domaines at the end of 2022. From 2024, the wine merchant business was discontinued in order to focus on the estate’s own vineyards and those under lease. As part of a reorganisation of the Côte de Beaune vineyard, Bouchard Père & Fils now focuses on around 60 hectares; Mickaël Baroin, technical director, oversees the winemaking. The conversion to organic farming, which began in 2009, will result in all plots being certified from the 2025 vintage onwards.

Parcelle & terroir

Corton [Rouge]

Corton is both a Grand Cru appellation and a physically delimited terroir on the slopes of the Montagne de Corton, in the north of the Côte de Beaune. It does not constitute a single climat: red Corton can be followed by the name of one of the 24 climats authorized by the product specification. The plots are staggered across several slopes, with exposures ranging from east to south and then west, which explains a significant diversity of soils and characters. The area of 87.04 ha corresponds to the surface area in production declared as red in 2022, and not to the area of a single cadastral climat.

Histoire de la parcelle

The presence of vines on the Montagne de Corton is attested as early as the early Middle Ages, notably through the donation of vineyards made in 775 by Charlemagne to the collegiate church of Saulieu. In the 12th century, the Abbey of Cîteaux owned an estate in Aloxe comprising vineyards in Clos de Courthon, while the Dukes of Burgundy held the future Clos du Roi. In 1855, Jules Lavalle classified Corton among the "out-of-line wines"; the commune of Aloxe added the name of the cru to its own in 1862. The Corton appellation d'origine contrôlée was recognized on July 31, 1937, and its parcel area was notably approved by the INAO on September 20, 1984.
