Loire

Among our other French appellations, the Loire Valley is one of France's most extensive wine-growing regions, with around 1,000 kilometres of vineyards. It produces such a rich palette of wines that it's hard to find common characteristics between them, despite the fact that they are sometimes made from the same grape varieties.
The first of the three major wine-growing regions, Sancerre and Pouilly, produces fruity, herbaceous white wines, thanks to the Sauvignon grape variety. The second wine-growing region is Touraine and Anjou, with a family of still and sparkling white wines, as well as the Loire's largest production of red wines. Finally, we have the Lower Loire with the kingdom of Muscadet (also known as Melon de Bourgogne), which makes up the last region with a light, fruity white wine.
Loire wines have neither a hierarchy of terroirs, as in Burgundy or Alsace, nor a historical classification, as in Bordeaux. But despite the difficulty of identifying the best producers, this region is a goldmine for wine lovers, thanks to its diversity, quality and affordable prices. The grape varieties used to make these wines are very varied: Pinot Noir, the grape variety used in Burgundy wines, Chemin Blanc, the dominant grape variety in the region, and Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the red grape varieties of the Centre-Loire. But also Gamay and Chardonnay. All this variety allows winegrowers to diversify the style of their wines.
Among Loire wines, we can find appellations such as Saumur and Saumur Champigny from the Clos Rougeard estate, which have become favourites with critics and international sommeliers in recent years. Collectors have been known to travel hundreds of kilometres to taste certain Clos Rougeard vintages. It's a region that's sure to charm wine lovers!
