Gilette Super Creme de Tete Rebouché 1937 Bouteille (75cl) EA
The 1937 Château Gilette Super Crème de Tête rebouché is a sweet white Sauternes wine from Bordeaux, produced by Château Gilette, a property owned by Christian Médeville. This cuvée combines 90% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle. The term "rebouché" identifies a bottle that has undergone recorking. Château Gilette is a Preignac growth renowned for the late release of its vintages; the Crème de Tête cuvée is traditionally aged for an extended period in concrete vats, followed by bottle aging before commercialization.

Histoire du domaine
Château Gilette is situated in Preignac, in the Sauternes region. The estate came into the Médeville family’s possession in 1710 and has remained in the family ever since. During the 1930s, René Médeville developed a method of extended ageing of wines in vats, which gave rise to the estate’s distinctive style. After the Second World War, observation of the favourable development of a wine aged in vats reinforced this approach. Christian Médeville, René’s son, took over the estate in 1953. In 1967, he decided to devote the entire output of the 4.5-hectare vineyard to the ‘Crème de Tête’ selection, which is aged for an extended period in cement vats. Julie Gonet-Médeville, Christian’s daughter and René’s granddaughter, took over the management of the estate in 2004. She now oversees the winemaking process alongside her husband, Xavier Gonet, who is also a co-owner.
Super Crème de Tête
"Super Crème de Tête" is a historical reference of Château Gilette in the Sauternes appellation, documented notably for the 1933 and 1937 vintages. Professional catalogs explicitly distinguish it from the ordinary "Crème de Tête", including within the 1937 vintage.
- Style of the cuvée
- Sweet white wine from Sauternes, historically presented as a superior selection of the tête de cuvée type.
- Position within the range
- Superior historical selection, distinct from the Crème de Tête in old wine catalogs.
Histoire de la cuvée
Bottles from 1937 are documented bearing the mention "Super Crème de Tête" and as having been recorked or repackaged. A sales catalog notes a certificate from the château dated 1971 certifying the origin and the repackaging conditions of two bottles.
