Located in Fargues-de-Langon, Château de Fargues produces a Sauternes made primarily from Sémillon, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc, grown on clayey gravel soils. Philippe de Lur Saluces currently represents the sixteenth family generation at the helm of the estate.

Histoire du domaine
The fortress of Fargues was built in 1306 at the initiative of Raymond-Guilhem de Fargues. The estate entered the de Lur family in 1472 through the marriage of Isabeau de Montferrand, Lady of Fargues, to Pierre de Lur; the name de Lur Saluces appeared after the marriage of Jean de Lur and Catherine-Charlotte de Saluces in 1586. A fire devastated the château on the night of May 24 to 25, 1687, leading to its gradual abandonment, while the lands retained their agricultural vocation. From 1922 onward, Bertrand de Lur Saluces redirected the property: he abandoned ordinary red wine production and replanted the best plots with Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc to craft a great Sauternes wine. The first vintage of Château de Fargues was produced in 1943, too late for the estate to have been included in the 1855 classification. Alexandre de Lur Saluces succeeded his uncle Bertrand in 1968, enlarged the vineyard, modernized the winemaking facilities, and initiated the restoration of the fortress. His son Philippe joined the estate's management in 2014 and took over following the passing of Alexandre de Lur Saluces on July 24, 2023. The property thus remains in the same family for over five centuries.
