Histoire du domaine
The history of L’If is intertwined with that of the Thienpont family, who have been involved in the wine trade since 1842. In 1921, Georges Thienpont acquired Château Troplong-Mondot in Saint-Émilion, before the property was sold on in the 1930s. In the late 2000s, Jacques Thienpont, already a co-owner of Le Pin in Pomerol, purchased a vineyard on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The estate was named L’If, in reference to the tree, as a symbolic continuation of Le Pin and L’Hêtre. The first vintage was produced in 2011. The vineyard now covers 8 hectares, predominantly planted with Merlot and supplemented with Cabernet Franc. A significant proportion of the vines were replanted in the first few years following the acquisition. Jacques Thienpont remains a co-owner of the estate, which he manages alongside Cyrille Thienpont, who is responsible for winemaking.
