Histoire du domaine
The property is situated in a historical winegrowing area of Nagoselo do Douro, associated with the production of Port destined for export since the late 17th and early 18th centuries. An inscription dated 1839, found on the threshold of a rural building on the estate, also attests to the antiquity of the site. The family took over an initial winegrowing property in 1982; the estate was extensively rebuilt in 1985, with the replanting of part of the vineyard. Sociedade Agrícola Quinta do Javali, Lda was established in 2000 to produce and market its own DOC Douro and Port wines. Official documentation presents the enterprise as a family-run farm born from the passion of its owner, engineer Amorim Martins, for Port wine. António Mendes, also cited as José António Mendes in several professional sources, is the manager and winemaker; his son António Mendes Jr. now participates in the family project and its stylistic evolution. The estate officially farms 18 hectares spread across five properties in Nagoselo do Douro and Ervedosa do Douro, practicing organic and biodynamic viticulture.
