Mathilde et Yves Gangloff Cote Rotie La Sereine Noire 2005
The 2005 La Sereine Noire from Domaine Mathilde et Yves Gangloff is a red wine from the Côte-Rôtie appellation in the Rhône Valley, crafted exclusively from 100% Syrah. This cuvée comes from vines with an average age of 40 years, planted on granite and schist soils. The grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and destemmed, followed by temperature-controlled maceration in stainless steel vats. Ageing takes place in two- to three-year-old oak barrels.

Histoire du domaine
Yves Gangloff, originally from Alsace, settled in the Condrieu region in the late 1970s. He learnt the art of viticulture as a vineyard labourer, notably at Delas Frères. Together with Mathilde, he gradually acquired plots of land, some already planted and others fallow, and built up the estate during the 1980s. The first vintages were released in 1989, from the 1987 vintage in Côte-Rôtie and the 1988 vintage in Condrieu. The vineyard subsequently expanded through acquisitions and new plantings in Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. It now comprises 8.5 hectares of owned land, including 3.5 hectares in Côte-Rôtie, 2.5 hectares in Condrieu and 2.5 hectares in Saint-Joseph. Elsa Gangloff joined her father at the estate in 2011. Winemaking is now overseen by Yves and Elsa Gangloff, whilst Aurélien helps with the work on the estate.
La Sereine Noire
La Sereine Noire is a red Côte-Rôtie distinctively produced by Domaine Mathilde et Yves Gangloff. It is crafted from Syrah originating from old vines, notably located on the Côte-Rozier and Mollard lieux-dits. It differs from La Barbarine, the estate's other Côte-Rôtie, through generally deeper and more concentrated material.
- Style of the cuvée
- Deep and concentrated Côte-Rôtie, featuring notes of black fruits, spices, violet, and olive, with a silky texture, structured tannins, and a long finish.
- Position within the range
- Iconic and premium cuvée of the estate in Côte-Rôtie, positioned above La Barbarine.
