Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand - Gevrey Chambertin - La Justice 2023 Bouteille (75cl)
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice from Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand is a red Burgundy wine classified as a Village appellation, made from 100% Pinot Noir. This cuvée comes from the La Justice parcel, located east of the D974 on sandy soils dotted with alluvial pebbles. The vines are cultivated under certified organic agriculture, with the use of biodynamic practices. Vinification combines native yeasts and 15% to 20% whole clusters; aging typically lasts 12 to 14 months in barrels, 20% to 30% of which are new.

Jérôme Galeyrand
Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Jérôme Galeyrand farms nearly six hectares spread across Gevrey-Chambertin, Fixin, Marsannay, and the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation. He oversees vinification himself and notably produces Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice, coming from a parcel added to his range starting with the 2009 vintage. His work favors measured vinification and a precise interpretation of the various terroirs of the Côte de Nuits.

Histoire du domaine
Originally from the Loire region and without a winemaking background, Jérôme Galeyrand first worked for eight years in the food industry. His decisive discovery of Burgundy occurred between 1996 and 1997, during harvest work and later in the cellar at Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin. Convinced he wanted to change careers, he began viticultural training in Beaune in 2000. In January 2002, he started looking for vines and acquired a first parcel of 0.05 hectare in Les Retraits, in Comblanchien, within the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation, vinifying his first harvest that very September. He then took over an estate in Brochon in 2003, concurrently launched a small merchant activity in 2004, and acquired vines in Fixin and Marsannay in 2005. The Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice cuvée, originating from vines planted in 1946-1947, has been bottled under his name since the 2009 vintage, whereas previous harvests were sold to négociants. In 2023, the addition of 0.37 hectare of Marsannay Clos du Roy temporarily brought his stated area to 5.5 hectares; the most recent professional data now indicate 5.9 planted hectares and an annual production of 50,000 bottles.
La Justice
La Justice is a wine-growing lieu-dit in Gevrey-Chambertin that can be claimed under the Village appellation and is not among the climats classified as Premier Cru. It is located along the axis of the alluvial fan formed at the outlet of Combe Lavaux, in the eastern and relatively low-lying part of the vineyard area. Its exposure is given as east to east-southeast. The soils described for this site combine brown calcic soils, marl, scree, and red silts.
