The 2000 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas is a red wine from the Rhône Valley, produced in the Cornas appellation from Syrah. Hand-harvested, it is vinified with whole clusters in concrete vats; the various parcels are worked separately prior to final blending. Ageing takes place in old large oak foudres for 22 months, unfined and with a light fining before bottling. Jancis Robinson describes a deep and already open Cornas, combining nuances of leather and spices with ripe fruit, featuring dusty tannins on the finish.

100% Syrah, granite soil, 30-38 hl/ha yield, 22 months ageing in oak foudres, bottled without filtration, light fining, 13.25 % alcohol, 2.8 g/l acidity, 3.8 pH. Dark, healthy crimson. Leather and spice on the nose – convincingly deep. Ripe fruit on the front palate and very winningly open on the mid palate with dusty tannins only on the finish. A very successful expression of Cornas.
