Histoire du domaine
The Arnaud Mortet label was launched with the 2016 vintage, building on the family business run at Domaine Denis Mortet in Gevrey-Chambertin. Arnaud Mortet joined his father Denis at the estate in 2000, following stints in Australia and the United States. Upon Denis Mortet’s death in 2006, Arnaud took over the running of the family estate with the support of his mother, Laurence. His sister Clémence then joined the family business in 2013. In 2016, a retiring winegrower from Gevrey-Chambertin entrusted the management of around 4 hectares of vineyards to Arnaud and Clémence Mortet. These vineyards include areas of Gevrey-Chambertin village, the premiers crus Lavaux-Saint-Jacques and La Perrière, as well as plots in Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin. The wines produced from these grapes are marketed under the name Arnaud Mortet. The sources consulted describe this as a wine merchant’s operation, as the grapes are purchased from the vineyard owner, whilst noting that Arnaud Mortet manages the cultivation, chooses the harvest date and oversees the winemaking in the same cellar as the family estate.
Charmes-Chambertin (Gevrey Chambertin)
Charmes-Chambertin is a red Grand Cru appellation and a physically demarcated terroir within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, comprising the lieux-dits Aux Charmes and Mazoyères. The vineyard occupies a slight piedmont bench, between 260 and 280 meters in altitude, at the mouth of the Combe Grisard. Its shallow, carbonated and well-draining soils combine limestone gravel, clays and red silts; the parcels of Aux Charmes face mostly east to east-northeast, while Mazoyères is oriented more towards the south. The demarcated area of Mazoyères-Chambertin coincides with that of Charmes-Chambertin, the latter name being commonly claimed.

Histoire de la parcelle
The reputation of the climats Aux Charmes and Mazoyères is attested as early as the 18th century. In 1855, Jules Lavalle classified them partly as first cuvée and partly as second cuvée. A 1931 ruling by the Dijon court sanctioned the addition of the name Chambertin and established the boundaries of the appellation d'origine; the AOC Charmes-Chambertin was subsequently recognized by decree on July 31, 1937. The parcel area currently specified in the product specification cahier des charges was approved by the INAO on May 17 and 18, 1984.
