Histoire du domaine
The château’s site was once home to a mill belonging to the seigneury of Saint-Georges, on the site of the current wine storehouses and cellar. Château Moulin Saint-Georges became part of the Vauthier family’s estate in 1921. It thus forms part of the same family-owned collection of Saint-Émilion estates as Château Ausone, situated opposite the estate. The Vauthiers now represent the fifth generation to own this property, whilst the family as a whole counts an eleventh generation of winegrowers. The vineyard is situated on a limestone hillside in the southern valley of Saint-Émilion, with clay-limestone soils and natural drainage provided by the Fongaban stream. The grapes are harvested by hand, after which vinification takes place in stainless-steel vats before ageing in barrels. The vineyard began its transition to organic farming in 2020. The estate is managed by Alain and Pauline Vauthier; Philippe Baillarguet is the estate’s cellar master.
