Histoire du domaine

Claude Moët founded his wine merchant’s business in Épernay in 1743. His grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, subsequently developed overseas markets and contributed to the company’s international expansion. In 1816, Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles became his business partner. When Jean-Rémy Moët retired from the business in 1833, the company was passed on to his son Victor Moët-Romont and his son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles. It then took the name Moët & Chandon. During the 19th century, the house significantly increased its shipments and commercial presence. It is now part of the LVMH group, within MHCS. Benoît Gouez has served as cellar master there since 2005.

Cuvée

Dom Pérignon Rosé

Dom Pérignon Rosé is an exclusively vintage-dated prestige cuvée, built on a blend incorporating an assertive expression of Pinot Noir. It is distinguished from the white Dom Pérignon Vintage by the pursuit of a riper maturity of Pinot Noir and by extended aging, currently announced at twelve years or more.

Origin of the cuvée name
The name Dom Pérignon pays homage to Dom Pierre Pérignon, cellarer of the Hautvillers Abbey from 1668; "Rosé" denotes the rosé expression of this cuvée.
Cuvée creation year
1959
Style of the cuvée
A blended vintage rosé Champagne seeking the balance between the richness and intensity of Pinot Noir, and the precision, tension, minerality, and complexity characteristic of the Dom Pérignon style.
Position within the range
A rare and prestigious rosé expression of Dom Pérignon, aged longer than the white Vintage.

Histoire de la cuvée

The first bottles of Dom Pérignon Rosé correspond to the 1959 vintage, laid down in the cellars that year. This first vintage was unveiled in 1971 during the celebrations of the 2,500th anniversary of the founding of the Persian Empire, where 863 magnums were served in Persepolis.

Offering up aromas of orange rind, dried white flowers and fresh pastry mingled with nuances of smoke and iodine, the 2005 Dom Pérignon Rosé is medium to full-bodied, vinous and fleshy, with a rich core of fruit complemented by sapid nuances that lend the wine interesting gastronomic potential. Broad, textural and delicately phenolic, it's a successful effort in a challenging Champagne vintage.

A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for mintutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better.

Mid salmon pink. Still quite tense and introvert on the nose. Opulent fruit – so opulent it almost tastes as though there were a higher dosage, and yet with an energising bitter note on the end. Orange peel. Seductive. Really rather glorious – like a Volnay in its perfume and delicacy, but as substantial as fine red burgundy.
