Histoire du domaine
The estate was founded in Avize in 1894 by Arthur Agrapart, who was already a winegrower and winemaker. Its development was hampered during the first half of the 20th century, particularly by the consequences of the First World War. In the 1950s and 1960s, Pierre Agrapart, the founder’s grandson and Pascal’s father, restored the estate to working order and gradually expanded the vineyard by purchasing plots of land. Pascal Agrapart joined the estate in 1980 and took over its management in the mid-1980s. From the late 1980s onwards, he shifted the vineyard management towards an approach free from synthetic herbicides and pesticides, based in particular on ploughing and compost. At the same time, the estate developed a system of vinifying each plot separately in order to distinguish the origins of its grapes. Ambroise Agrapart, Pascal’s son, joined the estate in 2018 and now works alongside his father in the vineyard and the cellar. The estate is now listed under Ambroise Agrapart’s name by *La Revue du vin de France*, whilst the estate’s communications refer to Pascal and Ambroise Agrapart as owner-growers-winemakers.
Vénus
Vénus is a Brut Nature, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne, always vintage-dated. This cuvée comes exclusively from the 60-are plot "Fosse aux pourceaux" in Avize, farmed without heavy mechanical equipment, solely by man and horse. It is bottled under a cork stopper and metal staple, then disgorged with zero dosage.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name pays tribute to Vénus, the mare used to plow the vineyard from which the cuvée comes.
- Cuvée creation year
- 2001
- Style of the cuvée
- A parcel-specific Blanc de Blancs with a dry, zero-dosage profile, striving for a precise, pure, and mineral expression of Chardonnay and the Avize terroir.
- Position within the range
- An emblematic parcel-specific cuvée of the estate, originating from a unique terroir in Avize.
Histoire de la cuvée
Produced for the first time with the 2001 vintage, Vénus was born from the parcel-by-parcel work conducted by Pascal Agrapart in Avize. Its identity is tied to the return of horse-drawn plowing and to the mare Vénus, who became the emblem of this cuvée and of the Fosse aux pourceaux plot.
