Italy Toscane Isole e Olena Cepparello 1982 Magnum
Cepparello 1982 is a Tuscan red wine crafted by Cantine Isole e Olena from 100% Sangiovese. Classed as Toscana IGT, this cuvée comes from a selection of the estate's best plots and stands among the earliest Tuscan expressions to champion pure Sangiovese; its inaugural release dates back to 1980. For this 1982 vintage, the wine was aged for 18 months in French and Slavonian oak barrels, followed by one year of bottle maturation prior to release.

Histoire du domaine
Isole e Olena has its origins in two small neighbouring hamlets, Isole and Olena, which were formerly farmed under a sharecropping system in the Chianti Classico region. Around 130 people lived there and worked the land, primarily to produce wine for local consumption and for trade. In 1956, the Piedmontese lawyer Francesco De Marchi acquired the two villages and merged them into a single estate. The gradual phasing out of sharecropping, initiated by a legislative reform in 1964, subsequently brought about a profound transformation in the local rural organisation. Paolo De Marchi, Francesco’s son, took over the management of the estate in 1976. He embarked on a programme of mass selection of Sangiovese vines and reoriented the estate towards a production model based on identifying the best plots and vine selections. In 1980, he launched Cepparello, made exclusively from Sangiovese, at a time when Chianti regulations still required the use of other grape varieties. In 2022, the De Marchi family transferred ownership of the estate to Christopher Descours and his family, via the EPI Group. Since 2023, Emanuele Reolon, oenologist and Estate Director, has been responsible for the technical management of the estate and the winemaking process.
Cepparello
Cepparello is a pure Sangiovese wine crafted from a selection of the estate's best grapes, rather than a single-vineyard cuvée. Created in departure from the blends then mandated in Chianti Classico, it was initially marketed as Vino da Tavola and now carries the Toscana IGT classification. The producer presents it as their benchmark wine and qualitative peak.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the Cepparello, a small stream that rises at the highest point of the estate's vineyards.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1980
- Style of the cuvée
- A pure Sangiovese with a structured, aromatic, and elegant profile, prioritizing balance, freshness, and aging potential over sheer power.
- Position within the range
- Iconic cuvée and qualitative pinnacle of Isole e Olena, presented as the estate's premium wine.
Histoire de la cuvée
After taking over the management of the estate in 1976, Paolo De Marchi spent several years selecting the highest quality Sangiovese clones. A first experiment in pure Sangiovese took place in 1977, and Cepparello was then created and commercialized for the first time with the 1980 vintage. Ineligible for Chianti Classico under the rules of the time, which required the addition of other grape varieties, it was labeled Vino da Tavola before adopting the Toscana IGT classification.
