Histoire du domaine
The Henri Clerc et Fils estate has long been established in Puligny-Montrachet, where the Clerc family has lived and cultivated vines since the 16th century. Its former winery is situated on Place de Johannisberg in Puligny-Montrachet; the main building, documented in the Heritage Inventory, dates from 1765. In 1965, Bernard Clerc began bottling the family’s wines, which had previously been sold in bulk to local wine merchants, and founded the Domaine Henri Clerc. Upon his retirement in 2002, Bernard Clerc entrusted the vineyards and winemaking to Vincent Girardin; a large part of the vineyard was then sold to this company. In February 2012, the Compagnie des Vins d’Autrefois, headed by Jean-Pierre Nié, acquired Vincent Girardin’s business; the leases relating in particular to the Puligny-Montrachet vineyards formerly owned by Henri Clerc were retained. Henri Clerc is now one of the estates and brands represented by the Compagnie des Vins d’Autrefois. Eric Germain, Vincent Girardin’s cellar master, is named by the company as the current winemaker for Henri Clerc wines.
Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is a physically delimited climat of Puligny-Montrachet, also constituting a Grand Cru Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée reserved for white wines. It occupies the lower part of the slope, with an east and south-east exposure, at an altitude of approximately 250 meters. Clayey colluvium, relatively poor in limestone pebbles, covers a Callovian subsoil of slab limestones, which favors drainage.

Histoire de la parcelle
In the 18th century, the wines from the "Bienvenues" climat still appear to have been grouped with those of Montrachet or Bâtard. A court ruling in 1921 established the hierarchy of the grand crus of Puligny-Montrachet, and then the plot area of Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet was individualized and recognized under the "grand cru" designation in 1939.
