Histoire du domaine
The estate was founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, following his marriage to Geneviève Quanquin, who came from a family that owned vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny. Georges Roumier then settled in the village and gradually developed the family estate in the Côte de Nuits. He was one of the winemakers who bottled their own wines on the estate, at a time when this practice was still relatively uncommon. His son Jean-Marie officially succeeded him in 1961. In the 1950s, the estate expanded to include vineyards in Bonnes-Mares and the Clos de la Bussière in Morey-Saint-Denis, a 2.59-hectare plot acquired in 1953. A plot of Corton-Charlemagne was added to the estate in 1968. Jean-Marie Roumier then acquired a plot of Musigny Grand Cru in 1978. Christophe Roumier, a graduate in oenology, joined his father in the early 1980s, and the entire harvest has been bottled at the estate since the 1983 vintage. Since Jean-Marie’s retirement in 1990, Christophe Roumier has managed the estate and overseen the winemaking. The estate has also strengthened its independence by purchasing vineyards previously farmed under lease or sharecropping arrangements, notably in Charmes-Chambertin and Ruchottes-Chambertin. Chemical fertilisers were phased out in 1988, followed by herbicides in 1989; however, the estate is not certified organic.
Les Cras (Chambolle Musigny)
Les Cras is a climat officially classified as a Premier Cru of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, located on the northern flank of the combe d'Ambin. Its orientation varies from east to southeast and its relief ranges from a gentle slope to locally steeper gradients. The soil is shallow and rich in active limestone, resting on a subsoil dominated by upper Bajocian marly and clayey limestones containing notably Ostrea acuminata fossils. This Premier Cru climat should not be confused with the portion of the cadastral lieu-dit Les Cras that falls under the village appellation.

Histoire de la parcelle
Les Cras belongs to the ancient vineyard cadastre of Chambolle-Musigny, many of whose lieux-dits are documented as far back as the Middle Ages, although no verifiable first individual mention of this climat has been found. The Chambolle-Musigny appellation was recognized in 1936, following a parcel delimitation initiated by the 1929 court ruling and confirmed in 1930. In 1943, a regulatory list of climats authorized to bear the "Premier Cru" designation was established; Les Cras is today among the 24 Premier Cru climats recognized by the INAO and the BIVB.
