Histoire du domaine
The Dugat family has been established in the Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards for several generations. Claude Dugat’s father, Maurice, acquired the former Cellier des Dîmes in 1956, a historic building in the village that became the centre of the family estate. Claude Dugat initially followed the family tradition of selling the harvest to wine merchants. At the turn of the 1990s, he began bottling and marketing the wines under his own name; the estate has generally operated in its current form since 1991. The vineyard covers approximately 6 hectares in Gevrey-Chambertin, including plots in Lavaux-Saint-Jacques, Charmes-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Griotte-Chambertin. Since the 2015 vintage, Claude Dugat’s children have taken over the running of the estate. Bertrand Dugat is responsible for cellar work and winemaking, whilst Laetitia Dugat is mainly involved in the vineyards; Jeanne Dugat also helps to manage the estate.
Lavaux Saint-Jacques
Lavaut Saint-Jacques is a Premier Cru climat located west of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, on the northern flank of the mouth of the Combe de Lavaux. With a south-south-easterly exposure, it ranges in altitude from approximately 290 to 315 metres and features a very irregular slope. Its bedrock is primarily composed of clayey limestone, with an area of stratified scree (grèzes litées) near the combe. The surface soils are described as shallow, clayey, and strongly red-colored, containing fossiliferous rock fragments.

- Gevrey-Chambertin
- Origin of the vineyard name
- The official name of the climat is "Lavaut Saint-Jacques", corresponding to the cadastral lieu-dit "Lavaut". Lavaut is believed to stem from "val", an old term denoting a depression or valley. The "Saint-Jacques" component was added to Lavaut during the judicial delimitation of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellations of origin in the early 1930s.

Histoire de la parcelle
Under the name Lavaut, the site was classified as "Deuxième Cuvée" by Jules Lavalle in 1855, a rank also assigned at the time to several Gevrey terroirs now classified as Grands Crus. The suffix "Saint-Jacques" was appended to the name Lavaut in the early 1930s during the procedures that established the appellations of origin for the Gevrey-Chambertin winegrowing area. Today, the climat is included in the regulatory list of climats entitled to append its name to the Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru appellation, under the official spelling "Lavaut Saint-Jacques".
