Histoire du domaine
The Domaine de Villaine was founded in Bouzeron in 1971 by Aubert de Villaine and his wife Pamela. It is situated in a village in the Côte Chalonnaise, where vines have been cultivated since the Middle Ages, notably under the guidance of the monks of Cluny. The estate has developed around the slopes of Bouzeron, the historic terroir of Aligoté Doré, and also owns plots in the Rully, Mercurey, Bourgogne and Santenay appellations. The vines have been cultivated according to the principles of organic farming since 1986; the estate was certified in 1997. Pierre de Benoist joined the estate in 2001 and has been managing it since 2003. He is also directly responsible for the winemaking process. The vineyard now covers 29.6 hectares, comprising 20 hectares of white grape varieties and 9.6 hectares of Pinot Noir, according to data published by *La Revue du vin de France*. Wine-making is carried out using grapes sourced exclusively from the estate’s own vineyard; no grapes are purchased from outside sources.

Passetemps today belongs to the specific parcel area allowing the "premier cru" designation, officially approved by the INAO on September 20, 1984.
