Histoire du domaine
Le Clos du Caillou was founded in 1895 by Élie Dussaud, who established a winery there on a property then used as a hunting reserve. When the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation was demarcated in 1936, the experts were unable to access Le Clos; and so the plots situated within it remained classified as Côtes-du-Rhône, despite being landlocked within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area. In 1955, Paul Pouizin acquired the estate and his son Claude set about clearing the woodland to plant vines. The vineyard was gradually established on the Courthézon terroirs. Claude Pouizin launched the first bottlings in 1970, whilst his wife Colette developed the direct sales business. The first exports began in 1980. In 1996, Sylvie Pouizin-Vacheron and her husband Jean-Denis Vacheron took over the estate. Following the death of Jean-Denis Vacheron in 2002, Sylvie Vacheron continued to run the estate alongside Bruno Gaspard, head of production and cellar master. The estate achieved organic certification with the 2010 vintage. In 2020, the Vacheron family also took over the Domaine de Panisse in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
