Histoire du domaine
The estate’s main house was built in 1730 and the vineyard is mentioned in the 1929 edition of the Féret guide. The estate was previously known as Château du Tertre. Émilie Mitjavile inherited it from her father; during parts of the 1960s and 1970s, the vines were leased to members of her family. François Mitjavile gained practical experience of vineyard management and winemaking at Château Figeac before settling at Le Tertre with his wife. Following the 1977 harvest, the vineyard returned to the direct control of the Mitjavile family. The name Tertre Roteboeuf was then adopted, in reference to the ‘lieu-dit’ (local place name) Roteboeuf situated on the estate’s hillsides. Since the 1994 vintage, the word ‘Château’ has no longer appeared in the wine’s name. The estate is now legally operated by SCEA Famille Mitjavile, of which Émilie Mitjavile is the manager. Nina Mitjavile is described by recent industry sources as being responsible for winemaking in the cellar, continuing the work of François Mitjavile.
