Histoire du domaine
The name Château Talbot refers to John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury and English governor of Guyenne, who was defeated at the Battle of Castillon in 1453. The estate belonged to the Marquises of Aux for nearly two centuries. In 1855, it was classified as a fourth grand cru in the Médoc and Graves wine classification. The Cordier family acquired Château Talbot in 1918. Désiré Cordier, followed by his son Georges and his grandson Jean, succeeded one another at the helm of the estate. Following the death of Jean Cordier, his daughters Lorraine and Nancy took over the estate. Nancy Bignon-Cordier, her husband Jean-Paul Bignon and their children are now continuing the family tradition. The estate’s main winery, designed by the architects Nairac and Vacheyrout, was completed in 2013. Jean-Max Drouilhet has been the winemaking director since 2007, whilst Jean-Michel Laporte has been the estate’s managing director since 2018.
