Histoire du domaine
The earliest known ancestors of the Amoreau family living on the Puy estate date back to 1610. At that time, the family combined the cultivation of vines with that of red wheat in a mixed-farming system. As early as 1868, Barthélemy Amoreau was already recording his thoughts on the use of sulphur in winemaking. In 1921, the estate introduced a new grape-harvesting technique; then, in the early 1930s, Pierre-Robert Amoreau contributed to the development of the ‘fouilleuse’, a tool for shallow soil cultivation. After the Second World War, Pierre-Robert Amoreau joined the Nature et Progrès association, whose work helped shape the development of organic farming in France. The estate subsequently obtained Ecocert certification for organic farming and Demeter certification for biodynamic farming. From 1990 onwards, Jean-Pierre Amoreau and his son Pascal developed wines with no added sulphur, drawing in particular on the notes left by Barthélemy. The ‘Barthélemy’ cuvée was launched in 1994, in homage to this ancestor. The estate retains a significant proportion of its land as meadows, woodland, ponds and orchards, alongside the vineyards. Le Puy remains in the hands of the Amoreau family; Steven Hewison serves as technical director and cellar manager there.
Cuvée Barthélémy
Barthélemy is a distinct red cuvée produced exclusively from the grapes of the historic "les Rocs" parcel. Created in 1994, it is vinified without added sulfur and aged through dynamization. The estate presents it as the purest reflection of its identity and as coming from its highest-quality historic parcel.
- Origin of the cuvée name

- Style of the cuvée
- A deep, fine, and structured red wine characterized by integrated tannins, a dense texture, and a long aging potential, crafted in a low-intervention style without seeking woody aromas.
- Position within the range
- Emblematic single-plot cuvée, originating from the historic parcel presented as the estate's highest quality.
Histoire de la cuvée
The first vintage of Barthélemy was born in 1994. The cuvée pays homage to Barthélemy Amoreau, a family winemaker who, as early as the 1870s, recorded his reflections on the possibility of vinifying without sulfur. From its inception, it has come exclusively from the "les Rocs" parcel, crafted without added sulfur and aged through dynamization.
