Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape Serus 2022 Bottle (75cl)
The 2022 Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Serus is a red Rhône Valley wine produced by Domaine Chapoutier within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. This cuvée stands out for its single-varietal expression of Syrah. The grapes originate notably from the lieux-dits of Font de Michel, Les Grandes Cerfs Ouest, and Barbe d’Ane, planted on molasse-derived sands and alluvial terraces of rolled pebbles. Hand-harvested, the wine is vinified with 50% whole clusters in concrete tanks, then aged for twelve months in demi-muids and pièces.

Histoire du domaine
The company’s origins date back to 1808, with the founding of Calvet et Compagnie on Rue de l’Hermitage in Tain. In 1897, Marius Chapoutier went into partnership with Rodolphe Delépine to form Delépine et Chapoutier, which at that time exported its wines to the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. Following Delépine’s departure in 1922, Marius renamed the company Chapoutier et Compagnie. In 1928, he acquired the La Ciboise estate, then in 1929 had a new winery built at the foot of the Hermitage hill. On his death in 1937, his son Marc succeeded him. In 1955, Marc renamed the company M. Chapoutier. Michel Chapoutier took over the management of the company in 1990, having launched the first single-vineyard selections in 1989. The conversion of the vineyard to biodynamic farming began at that time. Under his leadership, the company gradually acquired estates and vineyards in Australia from 1998, in Roussillon in 2000, in Portugal in 2007, and subsequently in Alsace and Spain, amongst other places. Mathilde and Maxime Chapoutier have joined Michel and Corinne Chapoutier in the family business; Clément Bartschi currently serves as cellar master there.
Serus
Serus is a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape crafted exclusively from Syrah, unlike the appellation's more traditional blends. The grapes come from a selection of several lieux-dits with soils of molasses-based sands and alluvial terraces with rolled pebbles. The cuvée thus combines an iconic Northern Rhône grape variety with various Southern Rhône terroirs.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the Latin "serus", meaning "late", in reference to the slow ripening of Syrah.
- Cuvée creation year
- 2022
- Style of the cuvée
- A Châteauneuf-du-Pape made from Syrah seeking freshness and vibrancy, featuring a floral, peppery, and smoky profile, black fruits, velvety tannins, and a persistent finish.
- Position within the range
- A cuvée from the Excellence range of M. CHAPOUTIER, originating from a selection of terroirs in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Histoire de la cuvée
Created with the 2022 vintage, Serus was introduced by M. CHAPOUTIER as a new interpretation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, based solely on Syrah and conceived as a link between the Northern and Southern Rhône valleys.
