Chapoutier CDP Rouge La Bernardine 1955
The 1955 Châteauneuf-du-Pape red La Bernardine from Domaine Chapoutier is a Rhône Valley wine made from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. In this cuvée, Grenache is dominant, complemented by Syrah and Mourvèdre. La Bernardine blends several terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, featuring galets roulés (pebbles), safres (sandstone), and Villafranchian terraces over clay matrices. The cuvée sheet describes traditional vinification in concrete vats as well as complete ageing in concrete vats.

Histoire du domaine
The company’s origins date back to 1808, with the founding of Calvet et Compagnie on Rue de l’Hermitage in Tain. In 1897, Marius Chapoutier went into partnership with Rodolphe Delépine to form Delépine et Chapoutier, which at that time exported its wines to the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. Following Delépine’s departure in 1922, Marius renamed the company Chapoutier et Compagnie. In 1928, he acquired the La Ciboise estate, then in 1929 had a new winery built at the foot of the Hermitage hill. On his death in 1937, his son Marc succeeded him. In 1955, Marc renamed the company M. Chapoutier. Michel Chapoutier took over the management of the company in 1990, having launched the first single-vineyard selections in 1989. The conversion of the vineyard to biodynamic farming began at that time. Under his leadership, the company gradually acquired estates and vineyards in Australia from 1998, in Roussillon in 2000, in Portugal in 2007, and subsequently in Alsace and Spain, amongst other places. Mathilde and Maxime Chapoutier have joined Michel and Corinne Chapoutier in the family business; Clément Bartschi currently serves as cellar master there.
La Bernardine
La Bernardine rouge is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée crafted from several terroirs of the appellation, rather than a wine from a single parcel. The blend is predominantly Grenache, complemented by smaller proportions of Syrah and Mourvèdre. Vinification and aging in concrete vats aim to preserve the freshness, finesse, and fruit expression of the wine.
- Style of the cuvée
- Blended red Châteauneuf-du-Pape with an elegant and refined profile, marked by black and red fruit, spices, silky tannins, and preserved freshness.
- Position within the range
- Classic grand cru of Châteauneuf-du-Pape integrated into the Prestige range of M. Chapoutier.
