Histoire du domaine
Claude Moët founded his wine merchant’s business in Épernay in 1743. His grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, subsequently developed overseas markets and contributed to the company’s international expansion. In 1816, Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles became his business partner. When Jean-Rémy Moët retired from the business in 1833, the company was passed on to his son Victor Moët-Romont and his son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles. It then took the name Moët & Chandon. During the 19th century, the house significantly increased its shipments and commercial presence. It is now part of the LVMH group, within MHCS. Benoît Gouez has served as cellar master there since 2005.
Dom Pérignon Rosé
Dom Pérignon Rosé is an exclusively vintage-dated prestige cuvée, built on a blend incorporating an assertive expression of Pinot Noir. It is distinguished from the white Dom Pérignon Vintage by the pursuit of a riper maturity of Pinot Noir and by extended aging, currently announced at twelve years or more.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name Dom Pérignon pays homage to Dom Pierre Pérignon, cellarer of the Hautvillers Abbey from 1668; "Rosé" denotes the rosé expression of this cuvée.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1959
- Style of the cuvée
- A blended vintage rosé Champagne seeking the balance between the richness and intensity of Pinot Noir, and the precision, tension, minerality, and complexity characteristic of the Dom Pérignon style.
- Position within the range
- A rare and prestigious rosé expression of Dom Pérignon, aged longer than the white Vintage.
Histoire de la cuvée
The first bottles of Dom Pérignon Rosé correspond to the 1959 vintage, laid down in the cellars that year. This first vintage was unveiled in 1971 during the celebrations of the 2,500th anniversary of the founding of the Persian Empire, where 863 magnums were served in Persepolis.
