Histoire du domaine
Henri Martin, born in 1903 in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle into a family with links to the wine industry, made his first acquisition – one hectare of vineyard – in the late 1930s. He then continued, over several decades, to purchase small plots, some of which came from classified growths in Saint-Julien and Pauillac. The name Château Gloria was registered in 1942, the year of his first major acquisition of six hectares from Château Lynch-Bages. The estate was thus built up gradually, though it could not feature in the 1855 classification as it was established after that date. In 1956, Henri Martin became chairman of the Comité Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bordeaux, and then a director of Château Latour in 1963. In the 1960s and 1970s, he helped to raise Gloria’s profile in the United States. In 1981, he acquired Château Saint-Pierre in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. Domaines Henri Martin is now run by the Triaud family, with Jean Triaud and Vanessa Triaud-Amougou as co-managers. Rémi Di Costanzo, technical director and vineyard manager, is responsible for winemaking. The Château Gloria vineyard has been certified organic since the 2024 vintage.
