Chapoutier La Sizeranne 1990
The 1990 Chapoutier Monier de la Sizeranne is a red Syrah wine from the Hermitage appellation in the Rhône Valley, produced by Domaine Chapoutier. This cuvée blends grapes from several lieux-dits on the Hermitage hill, notably Les Bessards, Le Méal, and Les Greffieux. Its name pays tribute to the Monier de la Sizeranne family, former owners of the eponymous vineyard in Tain-l'Hermitage. A 1990 red Hermitage built on the exclusive expression of Syrah.

Histoire du domaine
The company’s origins date back to 1808, with the founding of Calvet et Compagnie on Rue de l’Hermitage in Tain. In 1897, Marius Chapoutier went into partnership with Rodolphe Delépine to form Delépine et Chapoutier, which at that time exported its wines to the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. Following Delépine’s departure in 1922, Marius renamed the company Chapoutier et Compagnie. In 1928, he acquired the La Ciboise estate, then in 1929 had a new winery built at the foot of the Hermitage hill. On his death in 1937, his son Marc succeeded him. In 1955, Marc renamed the company M. Chapoutier. Michel Chapoutier took over the management of the company in 1990, having launched the first single-vineyard selections in 1989. The conversion of the vineyard to biodynamic farming began at that time. Under his leadership, the company gradually acquired estates and vineyards in Australia from 1998, in Roussillon in 2000, in Portugal in 2007, and subsequently in Alsace and Spain, amongst other places. Mathilde and Maxime Chapoutier have joined Michel and Corinne Chapoutier in the family business; Clément Bartschi currently serves as cellar master there.
Monier de la Sizeranne
Monier de la Sizeranne is a red Hermitage made from Syrah, resulting from the blending of several terroirs: Les Bessards, Le Méal, and Les Greffieux. Maison M. Chapoutier presents it as an emblematic and iconic wine, classified within its "Excellence" range. It thus differs from the single-plot selections produced separately on some of these lieux-dits.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the Monier de la Sizeranne family, a prominent family from Tain-l’Hermitage who formerly owned the "La Sizeranne" vineyard.
- Style of the cuvée
- A structured yet elegant red Hermitage, combining concentration, supple tannins, red and black fruits, licorice, and spices, with mineral freshness and ageing potential.
- Position within the range
- An emblematic wine of the "Excellence" range, crafted from several major terroirs of Hermitage.
Histoire de la cuvée
The cuvée perpetuates the bond between Chapoutier and the Monier de la Sizeranne family, an Hermitage plot of whom was acquired by the Chapoutier family in the early 20th century. Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne, creator of a condensed version of Braille, is also associated with the adoption of Braille writing on the Maison's labels; Monier de la Sizeranne was the first Chapoutier wine to feature it.
